What to eat in Ipoh? (Part 1) [ Sun Kok Kee Dim Sum / Funny Mountain Tao Fu Fah / Sin Eng Heong Kaya Puff ]

Bored of Foh San already?
Tired of the same old Hakka treats and snack every time you drop by Ipoh?
A while back I went on a one day road trip with my family and decided to try a whole new food journey in Ipoh.

Let me share with you the meals and snacks I had on our trip...

 Breakfast :
Sun Kok Kee Dim Sum Restaurant @ Bercham Ipoh

A very old-schooled traditional dim sum if you compare with the usual Foh San (which is the top 5 dim sum places to eat in Ipoh though )
Located just at the border of Ipoh, just 10-15 minutes and will you only reach Ipoh-town.

The workers were super friendly and service was in tip-top condition.
Must be reminded that they push the old school dim sum trolleys to the customers though, so we don't have to snatch and grab at the front of the shop.

Sun Kok Kee has been lauded by some as one of the better dim sum restaurants in Ipoh. Also I can’t deny the fact that the dim sum here is really, really cheap. *Thumbs up*

Signature dish of the restaurant, or you can call it one of the famous Ipoh delicacies:
Stir Fried Radish Cake ( Loh Bak Gou )

The rest of their dim sums were the usual dish we usually eat in any other dim sum restaurants but the highlight was definitely the Stir Fried Radish Cake and their Egg Tarts!

 After Breakfast (i):
Funny Mountain Tao Fu Fah @ RM1 !!

Yes you heard me right, RM1 Tao Fu Fah! ( only if you eat-in )
RM2 for take aways.

Our reaction when we got there was :-O
LOOK AT THE LINE!
WHAT Mountain you ask?! FUNNY Mountain!

Waiting in the line... hmmm wonder how awesome will their tao fu fah taste?

So we got ourselves 8 x Tao fu fah and 2 x Big bottles of soya drink
They told us their bowls are "finished" though, sadly we got to pay RM2 per tao fu fah while looking at uncles and aunties slurping away their RM1 tao fu fahs haha!

A most saliva-inducing, gastronomic trail awaits you.........

 After Breakfast (ii) :
Sin Eng Heong's Kaya Puff (BEST IN IPOH)

Another jaw-dropping line!
Just right at the corner after having our tao fu fahs.
So convenient, just a few steps away!
BUT THAT LINE THOUGH!

I’ve always been a fan of  kaya puffs, and various pastries, from mini mooncakes to lou por peng (wife’s biscuits).  Ho Chak (a food programme in Malaysia courtesy of 8TV) and various media started raving about their kaya puff and I knew I had to drop by their shop.
On weekends and public holidays, the acclaimed pastries may run out fast, therefore give them a call before you go, to avoid leaving empty-handed, but their other pastries are equally nice, and should satiate your cravings for some snacks.

Didn't really get to take lots of food-eye-gasm photos mainly coz' we were starving and everything was gobbled down so quickly.

But stay tune for Part 2 Coming soon!

Cheers!
